2013: A Year in Review

2013 will be remembered for the amazing performance of the Philippines in the 'Big 7' beauty pageants scene, placing in all of them, winning 3 crowns, being runner-up in other 3 and being finalist in the other one, which made them the winners of the Country of the Year 2013 with the highest score ever and the longest margin between 1st and 2nd place.

MISS UNIVERSE 2013

The 62nd edition of Miss Universe was held on November 9th in Moscow, Russia.

The winner was Miss Venezuela, María Gabriela Isler, for the 7th time, only 1 crown behind USA, leading the victories ranking.

 

1st runner-up was Spain, 2nd runner-up Ecuador, 3rd runner-up Philippines, and 4th runner-up Brazil.

Top 10: Dominican Republic, Great Britain, India, Ukraine & USA.
Top 16: China, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico & Switzerland.

In our 'Hot Picks', we predicted 10 of the eventual top 16 delegates: Venezuela, Spain, Ecuador, Brazil, Great Britain, Ukraine, USA, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua & Costa Rica.
The eventual winner, Venezuela, was our 4th runner-up.
Our winner, Puerto Rico, made it to the top 16.
In addition, the eventual top 3 (Venezuela, Spain & Ecuador) made it to our top 5, in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th runner-up spots.
Biggest shock: Israel (our number 2) not making it to the top 16.

MISS WORLD 2013

The 63rd edition of Miss World was held on September 28th in Bali, Indonesia.

The winner was Miss Philippines, Megan Young, bringing her country their 1st ever Miss World crown.

The 1st runner-up was France, and the 2nd runner-up Miss Ghana.

Top 5 finalists: Brazil & Spain. Gibraltar was fast-tracked to the top 5 by Fan Vote.
Top 10: Australia, England, Indonesia, Jamaica & Nepal.
Top 20: Aruba, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, India, Italy, Netherlands, Slovak Republic, Ukraine & USA.

In our 'Hot Picks', we predicted 14 out of our top 15 choices, that at least made it to the eventual top 20.
We also predicted the winner: Philippines. France, our 2nd runner-up, was 1st runner-up in the finale night.

MISS EARTH 2013

The 13th edition of Miss Earth was held on December 7th in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines.

The winner was Miss Venezuela, Alyz Henrich, for the 2nd time, now leading along with Brazil the victories ranking with 2 crowns, and holding the longest streak of consecutive placements (9, every year since 2005).

1st runner-up was Miss Austria, 2nd runner-up Miss Thailand, and 3rd runner-up Miss Korea.

Top 8: Mexico, Philippines, Poland & Serbia.
Top 16: Chile, China, France, Mauritius, South Africa, Spain, Turkey & USA.

In our 'Hot Picks' we predicted 8 out of the 16 semi-finalists: Venezuela, Thailand, Korea, Serbia, Philippines, Mexico, France & Spain.

We also predicted the winner: Venezuela, and Thailand (our 3rd runner-up) ended up in the 2nd runner-up spot.

MISS INTERNATIONAL 2013

The 53rd edition of Miss International was held on December 17th in Tokyo, Japan.

The winner was Miss Philippines, Bea Rose Santiago, bringing home their 5th Miss International crown. Philippines also holds the current longest streak of consecutive placements (6, every year since 2008).

The 1st runner-up was Miss Netherlands, and the 2nd runner-up was Miss New Zealand.

Top 5 finalists: Colombia & Hungary.
Top 15 semi-finalists: Brazil, Ecuador, Gibraltar, Iceland, Lithuania, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Thailand & USA.

In our 'Hot Picks' we predicted 7 out of the top 15 semifinalist: Philippines, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Iceland, Brazil, Lithuania & Spain.

The eventual winner, Philippines, was our 2nd runner-up choice.
Our winner, Poland didn't even make it to the top 15.

Biggest shocks: Poland & Venezuela. Venezuela was a huge favorite, but she failed to place. She broke the longest streak of consecutive placements by Venezuela since 2005.

MISS SUPRANATIONAL 2013

The 5th edition of Miss Supranational was held on September 6th in Minsk, Belarus.

The winner was Miss Philippines, Mutya Datul, bringing home the 1st Miss Supranational crown for her country, and the 1st ever for an Asian country.

The 1st runner-up was Mexico, the 2nd runner-up was Turkey, the 3rd runner-up was Indonesia & the 4th runner-up was US Virgin Islands.

Top 20: Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Gabon, India, Latvia, Luxembourg, Myanmar (fast-tracked by Fan Vote), Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine & Venezuela.

In our 'Hot Picks' we only featured 9 girls. From our top 9, 7 of them made it to the top 20: Philippines, Mexico, Belarus, Brazil, Russia, Ukraine & Puerto Rico.

We also predicted the eventual winner: Philippines.

MISS INTERCONTINENTAL 2013

The 42nd edition of Miss Intercontinental was held on December 14th in Magdeburg, Germany.

The winner was Miss Russia, Ekaterina Plekhova.

The 1st runner-up was Miss Puerto Rico, and the 2nd runner-up was Miss Colombia.

Top 5: 3rd runner-up Philippines, 4th runner-up South Africa.
Top 15: Argentina, Costa Rica, Curacao, England, Germany, Hungary, New Zealand, Panama, Poland & Thailand.

In our 'Hot Picks' we predicted 9 out of the 15 semi-finalists: Russia, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Philippines, Curacao, Thailand, England, Costa Rica & Germany.

We also predicted the winner, Russia, the 1st runner-up, Puerto Rico, and the 2nd runner-up, Colombia, correctly.

MISS GRAND INTERNATIONAL

The 1st edition of Miss Grand International was held on November 19th in Bangkok, Thailand.

The winner was Miss Puerto Rico, Janelee Chaparro.

The 1st runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, the 2nd runner-up was Miss Slovak Republic, the 3rd runner-up was Miss Philippines & the 4th runner-up was Miss Australia.

Top 10: Brazil, Cuba, Latvia, Sri Lanka & Venezuela.
Top 20: China, Colombia, Ecuador, Macedonia, Myanmar, Netherlands, Pakistan, Thailand, USA & Zimbabwe.

In our 'Hot Picks' we predicted 12 out of the 20 semi-finalists: Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Australia, Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Colombia, Ecuador & Zimbabwe.

The eventual winner, Puerto Rico, was in our #18 spot. Our winner, Australia, ended up in the 4th runner-up spot.

Mister International 2013 was the only major male pageant held in 2013 (Miss World & Manhunt International did not take place).

It was held on November 21st in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The winner was Mister Venezuela, Jose Anmer Paredes.

The 1st runner-up was Indonesia, the 2nd runner-up was Brazil, the 3rd runner-up was Mexico, the 4th runner-up was Philippines & the 5th runner-up was Czech Republic.

Top 10: China, Colombia, Singapore & Slovak Republic.
Top 16: Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Italy, Slovenia & Turkey.

In our 'Hot Picks' we predicted 8 out of the 16 semi-finalists: Venezuela, Indonesia, Mexico, Philippines, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Turkey & Chile.

The eventual winner, Venezuela, was our 9th placer, while our winner, Czech Republic, ended up in the 5th runner-up spot.
